- Type of Pavement: Different techniques are used depending on the parking lot surface. Asphalt is softer than concrete. You’ll get subpar results if you treat the two materials the same when scarifying.
- Size of the Area: Time is money, and efficiency is key to professionalism. For large parking lots with a lot of work to be done, a walk-behind or ride-on scarifier is ideal. Handheld grinders work just fine for small areas.
3. Scarifying the Surface
After considering the job and selecting the equipment, it’s time to work. During the scarifying process, the operator will move the scarifer over the designated area. A paint-free, roughened surface will be left behind. When operating the grinder, control must be maintained to ensure that only the necessary material is removed. The underlying pavement should remain intact.
